Pelvic floor disorders are common problems that affect women and men of all ages. The good news is that pelvic floor disorders, such as pelvic pain, weakness or incontinence, can be treated. The pelvic floor specialists at CentraState are trained to evaluate and treat pelvic floor disorders with gentle interventions, which typically improve symptoms after a few short visits.

PELVIC FLOOR CONDITIONS

Millions of men and women suffer from pelvic pain, spasms, hypomobility, incontinence, and weakness. Pelvic pain is any pain that occurs externally or internally and can include rectal, genital, abdominal, hip, or low back pain. Pelvic floor conditions also include several types of urinary incontinence.

Pelvic floor rehabilitation can be beneficial for many conditions, including:

  • Pain in the genitals, rectum and/or surrounding areas
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Difficulty urinating or having a bowel movement
  • Chronic constipation or diarrhea
  • Urinary/fecal urgency
  • Back pain
  • Tailbone pain
  • Painful intercourse
  • Pregnancy and postpartum
  • Recent neck, chest, abdominal, or inguinal surgeries/procedures

PELVIC FLOOR TREATMENT OPTIONS

Treatment begins with a comprehensive evaluation, and then specific exercises are designed to restore the musculoskeletal balance of the pelvis, hip, and trunk regions and their functional integration – so you can regain a healthy and independent lifestyle.

Intervention may include:

  • One-on-one, 45-minute treatments with a licensed therapist or therapist assistant with specialties in pelvic floor
  • Therapeutic exercises
  • Manual therapies
  • Biofeedback / Surface EMG / Ultrasound to help retrain the muscles
  • Cranial-Sacral Therapy (CST)
  • Patient education on lifestyle changes and a home program
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Stretching, yoga, and breathing techniques
  • Pain management strategies
  • Kinesio taping
  • Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization
  • Electric stimulation
  • Mother/baby specific body mechanic training

A physician referral is required to get started.
