CentraState Medical Center is proud to announce that it has received a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) 5-Star Quality Rating System. CentraState is one of only eight hospitals in New Jersey to receive 4 stars, which was the highest rating issued in New Jersey this year.
The rankings are based, in part, on 64 quality measures, such as mortality, hospital-acquired infection rates and readmission rates. CMS also assesses patient responses to Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys, which rate the hospital based on patient perception of the hospital’s performance in complying with health care standards, quality measures, and staffing.

“We are pleased to be recognized by the federal government for the quality of care we provide our patients in the state of New Jersey,” says John Gribbin, president and CEO, CentraState Healthcare System. “While there are many quality indicators that focus on various health-related services, which can differ in outcomes, it is gratifying that CMS, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has noted the commitment of our physicians, nurses, and clinicians to uphold our mission of clinical excellence.”
This stellar recognition puts CentraState in the top quarter in the nation for overall quality and is just the latest example of our quality-related achievements, which also include:
- Being one of only a few hospitals in the nation to achieve Magnet status for nursing excellence three times.
- Recognition for the seventh consecutive year as one of the nation’s Most Wired Hospitals for leadership in information technology.
