Classes to Prepare for Baby2024-07-23T02:50:24-04:00

The Star and Barry Tobias Health Awareness Center at CentraState offers maternal and child health programs to help you feel confident and ready for the labor and care of your newborn. Our childbirth classes, infant care, and breastfeeding education programs are open to all pregnant and new moms. We encourage your partner or support person to join. You can participate in birthing classes at any point. We recommend you attend by your seventh month of pregnancy.

VIRTUAL BREASTFEEDING, INFANT CARE AND CHILDBIRTH CLASSES

One of the best ways to prepare when you’re expecting a new baby is to educate yourself on childbirth, infant care, and everything in between. CentraState offers a self-paced, virtual maternal-child health program so you can participate and learn from the comfort of your own home at your convenience! Get access for one year (so you can watch before the baby arrives and when those urgent questions come up!)

Video lessons cover:

  • Childbirth Preparation: Understand the process of labor, birthing techniques, comfort measures, and ways partners can support laboring mothers.
  • Infant Care: Explore all there is to know about preparing and caring for your baby. Learn up-to-date information about bathing, diapering, feeding, cord and circumcision care, recognizing illness, safety, and more through hands-on practice and demonstration.
  • Breastfeeding: Learn breastfeeding techniques to get nursing off to a good start and strategies to handle the common early challenges.
  • Plus, Health Coach Support: Your maternal-child health coach team of registered nurses and a lactation consultant can answer any questions you may have and provide additional support.

NEW MOM SUPPORT GROUP

The baby has arrived, but you still have questions! Join our virtual group and discuss your new mom concerns, share your experiences with other moms, and ask any questions you may have about breastfeeding, infant feeding, sleep deprivation, baby blues, returning to work… you name it! Our board-certified lactation consultant facilitates this open discussion group, and babies are welcome. The New Mom Support Group meets every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

CPR FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS

Parents-to-be, new parents, and family members are encouraged to attend this in-person class. Learn how to help a choking victim and CPR for adults, children and infants. Family & Friends CPR is a non-certification training program, and we offer CPR certification programs as well.

EXPECTANT GRANDPARENTS

This program provides up-to-date information about how grandparents can contribute to the baby’s well-being and become a strong support system for the new parents. We cover up-to-date proper sleep positioning to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, recommended vaccines for family members to help protect the infant, new techniques to soothe a crying infant, childproofing your home and much more. Grandparents will gain a lot of knowledge as guidelines are always changing on caring for an infant and keeping them safe.

Please note: This class is offered periodically. If you don’t see an upcoming class, please call 732-308-0570 for program information.
