When many turned to unhealthy behaviors to deal with stress this spring, Bill Cummings and Corinne Guidone took advantage of CentraState’s virtual Smoking Cessation program and quit smoking. Although the brother and sister tried to quit more times than they could count, they wanted to finally kick the habit to make good on a promise to their mother, who passed away from emphysema.
The six-week virtual coaching program was conducted online and included weekly group calls with a coach and check-ins throughout the week. It provided participants with tools to help them quit, like breathing techniques, mental strategies, and tips like taking a walk when a craving strikes.
Guidone is sleeping much better and coughing less, and Cummings has more energy. They said they loved the group’s encouragement and having a family member they could reach out to when cravings surfaced.
“The program gives you a lot of support and provides you with a good platform to go forward,” says Cummings.
“You can quit,” says Guidone. “It’s hard, but it can be done, and it’s easier when you have help.”
