One of 12 recipients nationally to receive prestigious award
The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recently awarded the Graduate Medical Education Award for Excellence to Sydney Asselstine, MD, co-chief resident of CentraState’s Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Asselstine is one of only 12 recipients nationally to receive this esteemed distinction for demonstrating a high level of patient care, interpersonal relationships with patients, physicians and faculty and for her leadership and community involvement.
The prestigious AAFP Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education honors a select number of commendable residents for their outstanding leadership, civic involvement, exemplary patient care and aptitude for and interest in family medicine. Dr. Asselstine was selected out of a pool of 4,665 eligible family medicine residents for the year and as part of the award, received a $1,000 scholarship and complimentary registration for the virtual 2021 Family Medicine Experience that took place on September 28 – October 2, 2021.
“Sydney is an exceptional resident and we commend her on being honored with this most prestigious award,” said Maria Ciminelli, MD, FAAFP, Program Director of the CentraState Family Medicine Program. Following residency, Dr. Asselstine plans to complete a primary care sports medicine fellowship to complement her family medicine training and hopes to stay active in her community and continue her involvement in teaching and advocacy throughout her career.
