Achoo! We can’t control the person sneezing next to you on the bus or plane, but we can offer these health tips to help you avoid illness while traveling during the holidays:
- Wash your hands with hot water for at least 30 seconds before and after eating as well as after using the bathroom. Carry hand sanitizer for back up.
- Get the flu vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone older than 6 months old be vaccinated each year.
- Take probiotics or a daily vitamin before traveling to help support your immune system and fend off harmful bacteria. Be sure to speak with your doctor before taking any new supplements.
- Try to steer clear of anyone who is sneezing, sniffling or coughing. If you’re in an assigned seating situation, ask your attendant if you can use a sterile face mask for protection.
