Many women tend to put their own health as the last thing on their to-do list, according to Mandi Wortman, clinical director of radiology services at the Star and Barry Tobias Women’s Health Center at CentraState. That’s one of the reasons the center has designed its services to provide an inviting, comfortable space where women can put themselves first and get the care they need to thrive in their everyday lives.
Named as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, the Women’s Health Center offers health services and screenings ranging from bone densitometry to 3D mammography and breast biopsies. Our physicians and wellness experts provide customized health education and care focused on the unique needs of women. The team includes a breast nurse navigator, who is a registered nurse dedicated to supporting and guiding women through their care. As part of the center’s pampering approach, women receive a spa gift certificate when getting their mammogram at CentraState.
John Pellegrino, MD, board-certified breast surgeon and medical director of CentraState’s Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program, leads breast health services at the Women’s Health Center, where his practice is now conveniently located. On staff at CentraState for more than 20 years, he specializes in the diagnostic and surgical treatment of breast cancer and other diseases of the breast.
“Our aim is to provide women with the services they need to conveniently manage their health care all in one place,” says Dr. Pellegrino.
Grant Expands Access to Breast Screening
For those without adequate—or any—health insurance, receiving quality health care can be challenging. The Star and Barry Tobias Women’s Health Center holds regular events and provides free breast screenings for the community, facilitated by the Women’s Health Center through the generosity of the William T. Morris Foundation, a 13-year supporter of CentraState Healthcare Foundation.
“This generous funding will enable us to expand our reach in bringing these potentially lifesaving screenings to more members of our community,” says Nancy Barone, CentraState Healthcare Foundation’s vice president of development and volunteer services.
