Our services are designed to meet and support the growing developmental diagnosis and rehabilitation needs of infants, children, and adolescents. Our mission is to provide compassionate, quality care to assist children in reaching their full functional potential, helping them gain skills to participate in all aspects of life at home and in the community.

PEDIATRIC PHYSICAL THERAPY

Pediatric physical therapy helps children from birth to age 18 to improve gross motor skills and functional mobility skills. These skills will contribute to a child’s independence and self-esteem.

Using variety of physical interventions, pediatric physical therapy restores:

  • Muscle Strength
  • Range of Motion
  • Muscle Tone
  • Flexibility
  • Postural Alignment and Control
  • Balance and Coordination

Pediatric physical therapy also prepares young athletes to safely return to sports following sports related injuries.

CONDITIONS TREATED

Our pediatric rehabilitation services include treatment for the following conditions:

  • Torticollis (a condition affecting the neck muscles)
  • Prematurity
  • Developmental coordination disorder
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions
  • Recovery from surgery or traumatic injuries
  • Visual/motor/perceptual issues
  • Articulation and language therapy
  • Delayed speech
  • Stuttering/fluency
  • Sensory processing disorders
  • Auditory (hearing) processing
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Sensory food aversion (food refusal)
  • Congenital and genetic disorders
  • Delayed gross and fine motor skills
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Hypotonia (low muscle tone) and dystonia (muscle contractions)
  • Down syndrome
  • Idiopathic toe walking
  • Hydrocephalus (fluid in the brain)
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Cognitive therapy
  • Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
  • Arthrogryposis (a joint problem)
  • Congenital, juvenile scoliosis and kyphosis (curving of the spine)
  • Congenital hip disorders

The early initiation of pediatric therapy services is important to promote the development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills, visual motor skills, mobility skills, the ability to explore and interact with the environment, communication skills, and functional abilities. At CentraState, we also strive to provide parents with essential tools that they can also use at home. For children who are already receiving school services related to their educational needs, we offer adjunct therapy that complements existing therapies.

HOW THE REHABILITATION PROGRAM WORKS

The process of physical, occupational, or speech-language therapy starts with a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of your infant, child, or teen. Following the evaluation, our therapists work with you to establish customized treatment plans and goals, which are designed to help you meet your highest functional potential.

Working collaboratively, we take into account all aspects of a child’s health to promote gross motor, fine motor, and speech-language development. Treatment sessions are one-on-one and customized to the needs of each child. Our team of therapists works very closely with other health professionals at CentraState to ensure optimal care.
