Your most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. So how’s it going?
If you’re like many of us, you tend to treat others more kindly than you treat yourself. The truth is no one expects you to be a superhero, and you shouldn’t expect it of yourself.
How can we free ourselves from our inner critic? Start by showing yourself the same kindness and understanding you would show a friend.
When you’re stuck on a negative thought, give yourself a mind makeover:
• Acknowledge your negative thoughts, but recognize them for what they are—just thoughts. Not everything you think about yourself is a fact.
• Shift your attention elsewhere—your body, your breath—and focus on something uplifting. Thinking of others, instead of what others may think of you, is a gratifying experience.
• Treat yourself with kindness. You are enough. Embracing who you are, as you are, is the essence of self-acceptance. With practice, you’ll get better at it and experience the healing and freedom that comes with self-love.
Following these simple tips will help you master your mind and transform it into a place of peace and positivity.
