CentraState is pleased to welcome Michelle A Mitchell, RN, MS, CNM, a Certified Nurse Midwife with a Masterā€™s Degree in Midwifery. Michelle joins CentraStateā€™s maternity department, overseeing perinatal quality and safety measures, in addition to joining the physician staff at W2W (Women To Women) Physicians Obstetrics and Gynecology of Freehold.

Michelle earned a Nursing degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, and a masterā€™s degree in Midwifery from the Philadelphia University Institute of Midwifery in Philadelphia, PA.

As a student midwife, Michelle trained at Jersey Shore University Hospital and Trinitas Regional Medical Center and had the privilege to attend many water births, low-risk births, as well as high-risk pregnancies and obstetrical emergencies.

Since obtaining her licensure as a CNM, Michelle has delivered hundreds of babies at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ, and at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ.

Michelleā€™s philosophy of midwifery is providing education, empowerment, and compassionate care throughout a womanā€™s life cycle, especially during the most transformational experiences, such as childbirth. She establishes a partnership with women and their families to develop a mutually agreed upon care plan.Ā  She uses both holistic and evidenced-based approaches, as dictated by the guidelines of The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the organization that sets the standards for maternal fetal medicine and care.

Michelle holds certifications from the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) fetal monitoring courses, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and the Resolve Through Sharing (RTS) Perinatal Bereavement Training program. She is also certified in Advanced Life Support for Obstetrical Patients (ALSO) and Centering Pregnancy.
